if a player attempts to strike another and he doesn't connect fully for whatever reason i believe the player who's been hit/missed HAS every right to go down holding their head or whatever...........attempting to strike another player is a red card offence..............therefore if you choose to strike someone you must be prepared to go to the line................you have to remember that in most if not all cases the player who goes down/dives is only REACTING to the action of another player................there'd be none or very little diving/cheating if every keeps their paws to themselves.

It appears Mayo fans really are willing to turn a blind eye to these players littered throughout their squad. I personally hope they don't achieve anything this year if these are the tactics they're going to resort to

Tyrone boy sayin: Mayo turning a blind eye ???
They would know, as they have years of practise in the blind eye art !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cork did as much diving as Mayo so get over it Tyrone & Meath.
Any one think Seanie Furlong did well with the 2 frees he won early on in their Final ? Both times he grabbed an arm and went down and both times the referee bought it.
I am continually amazed that Refs are so easily fooled, but then I got away with it for years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I was caught once by an umpire but escapted with a warning that he would call the ref if I tried it again and another occasions after winning 2 frees for handy points a certain corner back promised grevious bodily harm so I settled for what I had that day. It was in an Offaly Senior Club Champ game and I knew what the corner back was capable off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pplocal, did you ever see that film memento, where the guy forgets what he has seen and heard after a few seconds and keeps repeating everything over and over? I think you could really identify with him.

Brilliant film TheMaster, one of my all time favourites. Not like you to try and change the subject though when you have nothing to say

The rule does exist: "5.20 To attempt to achieve an advantage by feigning a foul or injury. PENALTY FOR ABOVE FOUL - (i) Caution offender; order off for second cautionable foul. (ii) If play has been stopped for the foul, a free kick from where play was stopped."
The problem with the above rule like the mythical hand-pass they are never applied. The rule book is choc full of rules that are largely ignored. Picking on one player or team is unfair - its rampant at all levels in all counties.
Whats wrong with just planting one on someone feigning an injury? At least give him somethign to moan about.

Gammy_Knee that is actually a fair point, these strikes disguised as a push are happening an awful lot, I would say they occur in nearly every game these days. Diarmuid Connolly was guilty of it and got his card rescinded, which was wrong in my opinion because at the end of the day it is still a strike with clear force involved. In that instance the donegal lad went down too, but in fairness to him, what is the correct thing to do? The guy has struck you in the chest with both hands, a couple of inches higher and it would be a fair thump in the face, surely that cant be acceptable? It all comes from these pushing and shoving contests that seem to be acceptable in the GAA when in reality they really shouldnt be. The reality of it is many of them are staged, often to target an opponent who is on a card. In the league final there was one instance where canty looked at vaughan (who was on a card) grabbed him as he was walking away, wrestled him to the ground as he was still trying to get away, pulled him on top of himself in a headlock and held him there. It is ridiculous when you think about it, how can someone get away with that? Dont get me wrong, canty isnt the only guy guilty of it, it is just a good example of something so obvious that we seem to accept in the sport. While I dont condone someone diving asa result of it, I cant help but think that if this pushing and shoving lark was addressed most of these incidents would disappear.

Mayo thought they were tough in the first half with lots of sneaky digs and late hits, and when Cork gave them their own medicine in the 2nd?
WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH!

Redfoot - You sound like the child with that daft comment. If you look at James Horans comments and our players after the game not one of them were moaning. Horan said the better team won. It seems there are more cork people commenting on these boards then were at the game? The cork public dont deserve there fantastic team.

So funny when Carney says at the end "there was nothing deliberate in that" when in fact GOD very deliberately ran into the Kerry player. The Donegal man covering up for the neighbour !!!!!!!!!!!!
In the Aidan O'Mahony clip the ref was technically correct. Striking with the hand= Red Card.
I notice the straight fingered jabs to the chest neck area in the follow upmelee & Cork were doing the same last Sunday. Time to put a stop to it. I well remember a few of ours, Ryan, McCormack, O'Rourke & Mulligan who would have stopped it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We could do with a few like then in June !!!!

Your question as to why not plant one:
Not that would be wrong as it would be the honest manly thing to do to those cheats !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last guy, a bully acting as a linesman tried, that got a fine shiner for his efforts and I never apolagised either !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The striaght fingers jab is a deliberate strike to goad an opponent and has to be highlighted.

The rule says that if you strike, or attempt to strike, another player, it's a red card, and if the referee is going to follow the rules, he has no choice. The players know this and they must learn to restrain themselves. HOWEVER any player who goes down, clutching his head/knee/ankle, after minimal contact is behaving in a dishonorable manner is and is NOT entitled to do that, Gammy Legs, and would do well to take a good look at himself. Perhaps it's about time yellow cards were also brought in for faking injury.

Mayo fans were quick to complain about Darren O Sullivan diving in the semi final i guess its ok when Mayo players do it. I guess nothing has changed with Mayo they get to a final and they crumble.

you may see it as dishonourable............however the way i see is if a player chooses to strike someone or behave in any other thuggish manner on the field of play then they can have no qualms about the way the victim REACTS to a strike, attempted strike or other................feigning an injury or exacerbating the situation is often the only way a player can get the protection they are entitled too..............how many times have you seen a player take continuous abuse from another player in the course of a match only to get red carded for retaliating when they can't take anymore of it ............... so if you're deliberately hit irrespective of how serious it is GO DOWN, it'll get the attention of the officials................the perpetrator will have to be on their best behaviour for the remainder of the game otherwise they'll walk.
