A little like the hardest position to master what do people think is the most important position in Football or Hurling? I think its centre back. You have to have a good centre back who can hold the centre and wont let his full back line exposed because most of the other teams scorers are going to be playing in the full forward line.

Again its probably another of these questions that you could argue a good case for a lot of positions on the field however I would probably say Midfield. Not only do midfielders determine possession at the beginning of each half but they are also the target of kickouts the majority of the time so its vital for the team to have someone in the position who can win the ball and then distribute it as possession is the key to any game. Its also said quite often that games are won and lost at midfield.

Could be one of many... anything up the middle of the pitch for me i think, full back, centre back, mid field, centre forward..... but surely the the most important player must be the goalkeeper. where would the dubs be without Cluxton? Keepers are the last line of defence, shot stoppers, Kick outs are often bang on- put in a bread basket for players! Any good team would be nothing without a good goalie

Agree Deck_Him that you need a strong line up the middle. Had given a bit of consideration to the goalie before I posted the first time but decided against 'nominating' that position as a goalie can go through a match having very little to do - except kick out which is important in itself. If you have a good back line then the amount of goal scoring chances available are very limited in a game and teams are reduced to taking their points which then means the goalie isn't called in to action very much. This is in no way diminishing the value of a good goalkeeper as they are the last line in defence and can be the difference between a win and a loss, however, I just think that given the fact they can remain redundant for a lot of the game then other positions are more 'important'.

Not being ever great for pace, i still played corner-forwardn In there out-of-the-way kinda thinking by mgt maybe..LOL but corner and wing forwards are pressure positions as the big FF will "break the ball" or the CF will be "roaming to provide it" so then the wide men are under pressure to get possession, bet the man and score which aint easy as a back is just expected to put pressure on, get a touch, etc...

IMO though, Centre-Back is the hardest position. they are the pivot of the defences movement. you have to mark a roaming man in the form of the CF position and then you have to hold the line when needed, hence read the game, be a good footballer, hurling, be able to tackle, pass, catch, break forward and score if allow. look at the greats such as Tony Keady, Ciaran Carey of hurling and seamus moynihan and graham canty in football, thy all paleyed big roles in their teams winning due to the ability at that position

FB is prob the hardest especially if the opposing team play with two men up. Acres of space for the forwards to run into to. CB isn't as important as midfield I think. A lot of ball by-passes the CB and CF.There is a lot of hard work and covering done by most CB which isn't noticed by most people. But when your team is in possession the CB is the pivot. The midfielders are by far the most important. If you control the middle you control the game. .

The most important position changes game to game - it depends how a game pans out. Players work together as a team and discovering the most important position is always retrospective... sometimes it can even be the manager...

A team player shouldn't have this sort of question in their head - it flies in the face of the team ethos needed to win, it's irrelevant really.

There is no difference between a centre forward and a corner back both winning their battles, it is all part of the 'team' game.

totally agree with this no player is more inportant than an other! as you said if all 15 are winning their battles your team will win the game
