Lillies and the Royals

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This takes me back to the nineties when Kildare, Meath and Dublin were in the top tier of footballing counties, we had some great battles with the royals , the contrasting styles of traditional lilywhite flair against the never say die dogged physicality of the royals, looking forward to a great game next weekend and I am sure it will go to the wire with only a point or two between the sides at the end, I think we have developed a tougher edge under Mcgeeney and with Smith, Kavanagh and Johnny Doyle leading the attack it should just about shade it for the kildare,,

Just thinking over the last games, Dublin whipped Louth, Louth beat Kildare, Meath beat Dublin, Meath beat Louth cough!!! So I think I will put my money on Meath. and still hoping for a Meath v Dublin final.

My honest opinion on this is that we have the better players man for man but Kildare are undoubtedly a better team. Apart from Kildares slow starts they seem to keep up a consistant level for the majority of their games and most importantly they've been finishing teams off. The only big problem for Meath this year is our lack of consistency, one minute we're scoring goals for fun and then the ball doesn't get into our fowards for maybe 10mins or 15mins and that isn't going to be enough to beat Kildare.

In saying all that theres no point in being pessimistic, we haven't lost a game in the championship so far (that isn't a dig) and our winning margins were impressive at the start of the championship so if our lads can get some sort of grip on midfield i reckon we can win it by 2 or 3, but if we don't its Kildares match.

htaem, honest post. I think mid-field is going to be very important, kildare have been dominating it in all there wins so far picking up lots of breaking balls. Going to be a great match and close but i think (hope) that kildare will just shade it.

Kildare will crush them, theyre the 3rd best team in the country at the moment. Meath are seriously over-rated, weak everywhere but the F forward line.

Absolutley love how you mentioned that Dublin whipped Louth but when it comes to meath and dublin you say were merely beat yas.... I would call that more of a whipping than what you gave Louth in all fairness.

Yeah looking forward to this one as well, should be a great game. I think it will be high scoring and close, I'm going for Meath by a point in the game of the championship so far.

Think we'll need a few more scores from the half forward line, If Graham Reilly can play as well as he has been then he could be the match winner.

Lot of pressure on us now after the shambles a few weeks ago, hope the boys are well up for it and out to prove all the doubters wrong.

Would be a nice symmetry to it all if Kildare were the team to finally bring justice to the Meath robbers.

That would sicken them and their arrogance.

At least we will put it up to Kildare, unlike your county's dismal performance against them on saturday. Enjoy the rest of your summer in the latter stages of the championship! oh sorry thats not applicable in your case...

After Saturdays display, I would have to go with Kildare. Their midfield is very impressive, they won tons of ball. This is where Meath are at their weakest and unless they've found another player in the John McDermott or Liam Hayes mould I can't see them winning enough ball there. Where Meath can hurt Kildare is obviously in their forward line. Monaghan didn't move the ball into their forwards well enough when they had posession but Meath certainly can. Graham Reilly will be very important as the link man to the full forward line. Also, a lot rests on the form of the Kildare forwards. We saw John Doyle have one of his worst performances in living memory at Croke Park on Saturday but he was redeemed by Kavanagh's fine form who proved a real handful.
Meath defence has come on a lot but I don't think they're mean enough as good Meath teams have had in the past. Kildres run in the qualifiers will stick to them while you'd have to question just how mentally strong Meath are after the whole debacle of the Leinster final.

Orders with your club have to be in by 5 today I think. If you don't fancy paying one euro extra to the Kildare county board for your ticket go to ticketmaster or buy it on the day at the ticket office on dorset street. It's not going to be a sell-out.
