Referee obviously doesn't know the rules!!!!

(Oldest Posts First)

The Longford ref in todays football final has penalised 3 if not 4 players for an open-handed pass. TG4 have showed replays of these passes and in all there is a clear striking action.
Is the referee not aware that the experimental rule where all passeas have ro be made with a closed fist, are only for inter-county games and do not apply in the Club Championship.

I've seen it all now. A referee getting an All-Ireland final and he doesn't even know the rules.

I agree Doctor it was frustrating to watch.. And the Kilbracken man running through in possession of the ball takes a shoulder the other man falls off and it's a free.. Some terrible decisions.

To be fair on the ref, the hand passes he pulled the players up for were mostly throws with minimal, if any, contact with the striking hand which I think is fair enough.
He didn't pull them up on every hand pass that wasn't with the closed fist.

There were at least 3 occasions where the replay showed a clear striking action with an open hand. Yet these legal passes were penalised.
Were you watching a different game Fred.

There was minimal or no contact in every case, it was more of a throwing motion than a hand pass thats why he pulled them up and to be fair he was consistent which is all you can ask. There may have been a few questionable decisions throughout the game but on this point he was spot on IMO. And on that point are these instances where its not that clear whether its a legal hand pass not the reason the new experimental rules only allow a fist pass?

Hand pass rule should be scrapped hard for refs to know sometimes in cases like this.
