Does anyone know is it just a case of posting hurleys and sliotars to Australia or are there restrictions on them as they are wood from foreign countries?
Oohh that's a tough one, I think it's only certain types of wood carrying certain types of beetles and the like that will be stopped. It may be sent for screening but you should be OK I would guess.
I'd say if you get onto DHL or someone they should be able to answer it. I presume Irish people send hurls out there as I doubt there's anyone in Bondi making hurls! Otherwise ring Sydney Shamrocks or Central Coast GAA clubs or something and they will advise you how they get their hurls over - people carrying luggage into Australia are all scanned anyway so I presume it is ok.
Ever seen "nothing to declare" ? Christ that lot are scary......! I would be afraid to bring anything that isnt Australian with me! Cos EVERYTHING else in the world carries parasites and bugs that could absolutely devestate the Australian Landscape! EVERYTHING!

This is an early contender for Post of the year.Really well said Dublin man.The Aussies have some deluded opinion of themselves and look down their nose with Arrogance and Contempt at anything remotely Non-Australian.And don't get me started on Sport-Dear god you lot think the English are hard listen to?Multiply it by a thuosand and your still nowhere near it.It is also totally over-rated and anyone over there(irish) who tells you any different only says so because they probably made a mess of things over here.

Ah now lads, I take your opinion on board here, but they have to do domething to protect themselves. Yeah they are over zealous (I got stopped there in July). But they have a very different ecological system compared to Europe/Asia/Afica and the Americas. They are very much cut off from any other ecosystems and something small and inconspicious could decimate the population of an indigenous species. Sure you only have to look at something like the duck-billed platypus to see that things do work differently over there in terms of evolution. If they try and prevent someone bringing in a restricted item that would cause problems then they have every right to. We have major problems with grey squirrels, japanese knotweed, cherry laurel and rhododendrens ove here. If they prevent anhing like this then thats ok.
Sent a hurl over to oz a couple of years ago as a Christmas present to my sister. I think she got it in March. I don't know if it was the hurl or the sliotar but the aussie customs didn't know what to make of it. Apparently it has to be tested because it was a wood product or maybe they just wanted to have a puk around the carpark!
My advice would be to fully explain what it is on a sheet of paper inside the box.
