I notice in the early G.A.A records that many games were low scoring and remember a club game in the sixties when my local team won by 0-3 to 0-2 on a terrible day weatherwise. The modern game usually has reasonably high scoring. Can anyone recall a modern game of Gaelic Football or Hurling with a very low score or one in which a team failed to score in the entire game ? Cant find any in my own county records. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 02/03/2009 20:19:58 222420 Link 0 |

Last week in a u21 football match Gortnahoe beat Boherlahan 7-14 to no score. The score was put down 4-12 to 2-4 in the paper to save embarassment. Sisco87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 759 - 03/03/2009 12:54:49 222816 Link 0 |
Meath scoring 4-3 against Limerick, ok so this wasn't a low scoring game but its pretty stupid to score more goals than points in a 'top level' match. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 03/03/2009 13:37:17 222854 Link 1 |

Remember losing an underage match once. The score was 1-1 to 0-3. In fairness though, there is often low scores at under-9 or under-10 level so it would be a bit harsh to pick them out. I do remember a Galway county final at the start of this century. The score was either 1-3 to 0-3 or 1-5 or 0-5. It was played in absolutely terrible conditions and was supposed to be live on television but they weren't able to broadcast it due to the adverse conditions. The Carlow footballers failed to score in a league game against Cork in the early nineties. I think the final score was 2-16 to no score. Sligo failed to score in the first half of a championship math against Galway in 2000 in a game that many people expected them to win. Galway led by 0-14 to 0-00 at half-time and won by 0-22 to 0-4. I remember being at a particularly low-scoring hurling league game in the early eighties that finished Galway 0-8 Kilkenny 1-5 - it was actually a cracking game on a bitterly cold day. I also watched a brutal football league game around the same time in which Galway beat Down by 0-6 to 0-5. In my final year at St. Mary's College in 1988, the Connacht Senior A football final ended on a score of St. Mary's 0-3 St. Jarlath's 0-3 on a day when Tuam Stadium resembled a swimming pool (Mary's won the replay 3-5 to 0-6). A friend in Louth told me that a few years ago a senior c/ship semi-final between St. Patricks and Cooley Kickhams ended in a draw 2-0 to 0-6 and after not scoring a point in the semi St. Patricks actually went on to win the replay and the final. Imagine winning a county c/ship without scoring a point in a game on the way !! Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 03/03/2009 17:28:06 223146 Link 0 |
