Paul O'Donoghue has branded Cathal McCarron Round Towers' answer to Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.
Less than five months ago the Tyrone All Star nominee was playing corner back against Mayo in an All-Ireland semi-final, but last Sunday in Mitcham, South London, he was in action for Towers in the first round of the London Senior Football Championship.
In doing so McCarron is now eligible to play for Paul Coggins's London footballers in the National League next month, and he has already begun training with the London panel.
"He's unbelievable; when I heard that we'd got a Tyrone All Star nominee I was comparing it to Arsenal getting Ozil," O'Donoghue told the
Irish World.
The London-born O'Donoghue played for the Exiles in 2007 and last year helped Austin Stacks reach the SFC final in Kerry. He was also good enough to previously pull on the Kerry jersey, in the McGrath Cup.
"He gives everyone a lift. You just have to look at the way he applies himself in training and that gives an extra 5-10 per cent to players. We're very thankful he's over with us and I'm sure with the lads we've got he's glad to be with us as well," O'Donoghue added.
Round Towers went on to defeat a depleted Kingdom Kerry Gaels - last year's senior champions - by 8-12 to 1-10. Sean Hickey scored four goals in the South London side's win, with McCarron contributing 0-2 and O'Donoghue chipping in with a point.
