Former Kilcormac/Killoughey manager Danny Owens will take charge of the Westmeath minor hurlers in 2016.

The Offaly native stepped down from his role with K/K following their defeat in this year's Offaly SHC semi-final, having guided the side to their maiden county title in 2012 before going on to win a coveted three in-a-row.

A Leinster title was also added in '12 as they reached the All-Ireland Final where they lost to St Thomas' of Galway.

The former All-Ireland winner takes over from Raharney clubman Johnny Greville who guided the county to a Leinster semi-final this year, having recorded a ground breaking win over Wexford in the previous round.

Owens first championship game in charge will indeed be against Wexford as the Midlanders host the Model County at Cusack Park on Saturday, April 9th.
