Longwood V St Brigids

(Oldest Posts First)

I would say it was one of the most one sided and poorest junior quarter-finals in history going on the score. How bad were St Brigids or how good were the Longwood defence?

I agree i know you cant judge the longood defense on their dispay against bridgits but with the constant low ball that dumbaragh play into their forward line i can see them causing panic, the few low balls that bridgits did pay in the full back line seemed slow to react. And i feel Drumbaragh wil shade midfield, Cullinane seems to work only between the two fifties he,ll have to do alot more on sunday

What a scoreline lads. 1-11 to 1-1. They must have handed out an almighty beating to St Brigids. Longwood didn beat the teams in their group by all that much. Maybe two or three points in every game but they hammered St Brigids. Was anyone at the game what went wrong for St Brigids folks? Have Longwood stepped it up a gear and are even better now!??

Longwoods group was by far the toughest, id say all the teams in it would beat Brigits, gets serious now though

Longwood stepped it up from their group games, St Brigids had a few injuries and had to reshuffle their team before kickout. Brian Briody played all year at full forward but had to fill a gap at centre half back and Fergal Hennessy wasnt fully fit after his eye injury and he missed easy frees which is not like him. They were short Ryan Tighe & Brendan Briody also. Don't get me wrong St Brigids didnt play well and couldnt compete with Longwoods hand passing game. But Drumbaragh wont beat Longwood. Longwood would make a competitive intermediate team and should be respected. Maguire is a big addition and Mickey Burke had a say in every move on Saturday evening. As for Brigids, its back to the drawing board but a few lads on team are wrong side of 30 so they'll be contemplating retirement maybe

How do you make that out woodbine willy? Did St Brigids not have Ratoath and Slane in their group along with Simonstown. Longwoods group had nobody to challenge them in their group of that calibre?

On another note, despite missing several players in the senior Navan O Mahonies have signalled their intent with the win over Dunshaughlin. Some excellent displays. I thought Cormac McGuinness was excellent looking forward to the game with the Tones now

Ratoath are a shadow of last years team, i wouldn't rate them in the top 10 Junior teams this year. Slane are by no means a powerhouse either. Longwood had to beat the likes of a strong Summerhill 2nd team, Div 4 league toppers Meath Hill and the consistently strong Dunsany. I don't think it's any surprise to see both teams coming out of that group reaching the semi finals

Longwood and Moylough are the two best teams left in this tournement. I really think that Justin Reilly is one of the best forwards in the county not to play for Meath. It wont be enough for Moylough to beat Longwood unfortunately. Longwood have names among them that everyone else does not. Although its unlikely that Longwood could lose against Drumbaragh, watch out for this little side. Our second team played them a year or two ago and we struggled with their speed. Their only weakness i think is there lack of physical size, were a team with a big full forward line could cause pandemonium for them. Even if Drumbaragh do win, i think that Moylough would beat them in the final. Our own Barry Regan used to play on the county team with a guy called Joe Melia, is he still playing for Moylough. He was a good underage player anyway.

The brigids didnt play but even if they did, longwood still would hav bet them.. longwood had it easy enough.. dunsany cud be a surprise in this, wudnt b surprised if they beat moylough.

Drumbaragh beat kilmainham by 2 who wer favorites along wit longwood.. Kilmainham had a bad day out tho only playing for 10 mins and nearly winning.. longwood mite c them as a threat, longwoods forwards arnt accurate but they hav a gud defence. wud stil tink longwood should win. and id say the winners of this to win it out. this side of the draw seemed far stronger.

You can't really judge Longwood yet this year, they had an easy group and Dunsany didn't bother in the last group game. I don't think Brigids would have beaten them at full strenght but with Ferghal Hennessey and Tomas Blake injured in the lead up and only able to play part roles, Stephen Skelly injured after 10 min and Brian Briody moved to the backs Brigids had practically no forward threat.
Regarding the Longwood "big names" Cullinane is not very mobile and Maguire isn't half the player he was. Burke is one of the most mobile and disciplined footballers in Meath and would be a huge addition to any senior team. The difference between Longwood and most junior teams is that they have a system and enough fit players to stick to it. Players like Ennis, Dixon and their centre back Vinny Byrne are the guys who will make the difference.
This is probably the first year in a while that Justin O'Reilly (abroad travelling) and Joey Melia (injuries) have played the whole year and this is making a huge difference to Moylagh. Could be an interesting finish to the championship!!
