Mortimer ready to overtake record

Mayo's Conor Mortimer
Mayo's Conor Mortimer looks set to write himself into the county's GAA history books in the coming weeks.

Mortimer is closing in on Joe Corcoran's all-time scoring record of 415 points for Mayo during a career that spanned from 1958 to 1974.

Corcoran amassed 20-358 during a glittering career, but his 38 year record is under threat from the Shrule/Glencorrib forward, who has scored 14-360 (402 points) so far in his career.

Mortimer has managed his tally in 91 league and championship games, four less than it took Corcoran all those years ago.

The Parnells' clubman faces Down, Donegal and Cork in Mayo's next three matches and if he scores more than 14 points, he will surpass Corcoran's tally.
