Cody junior out to impress

Dublin's Aodhan Clabby with Diarmuid Cody of Kilkenny during the Leinster MHC final at Croke Park.

Brian Cody's son Diarmuid is pushing hard for inclusion on the Kilkenny senior hurling championship squad for 2015.

The James Stephens defender didn't feature in any of the league match day squads but has taken part in training as his father attempts to plug the sizeable holes left by the retirements of Henry Shefflin, Tommy Walsh, JJ Delaney, Aidan Fogarty, Brian Hogan and David Herity.

New faces such as Shane Prendergast, Joe Lyng, Keith Hogan and Kevin Kelly have caught the eye during the league and PRO Seamus Reade informed independent.ie: "Diarmuid didn't feature in any of the panels for the league but with so many players missing recently many of the U21 panel have been brought in to make up numbers at training.

"No panel has been finalised yet."

If he is successful in making the senior cut, Diarmuid would be following in the footsteps of his older brother Donnacha who made three championship appearances in the mid-noughties before injury curtailed his career.
