Kilrea are Ulster minor club champions

January 04, 2008
Derry champions Kilrea claimed the Ulster minor club football championship with a 2-9 to 0-9 victory over Errigal Ciaran of Tyrone in the final. The provincial decider took place on New Year's Day and goals in either half from centre forward James Kielt and full forward Lee Kennedy were instrumental in helping Kilrea become the sixth Derry club to capture the under 18 Ulster club crown. The Tyrone kingpins will rue fifteen wides, the most crucial ten minutes from time when Bryan Horisk uncharacteristically drove a penalty off target. Pearses captain Kielt opened the scoring with a 40-metre free and went on to finish with a personal tally of 1-2. Player of the Tournament Cassidy bagged 1-4 in the Ulster decider, which the winners led by 1-5 to 0-5 at the interval thanks largely to Kielt's 22nd-minute major.
