Games Coverage In the North of Ireland

(Oldest Posts First)

Ive heard boys on hear complaining that they cant get games in England etc but what if you can get to see the games in parts of ireland? I raised this issue before but even the games on TV3 is bit of joke considering we cant get TV3 with sky or virgin media. What does our southern counterparts make of this? should we just sit back and say nothing or should the BBC/UTV be given the same package that RTE is given? Or should RTE enquire into the idea of broadcasting on Free View in the North alongwith TV3 also??

Im very annoyed being an Irish Man living in Ireland but unable to watch our National games when they are available to others in the Southern part of the country!

What do our southern counterparts think?

Try Letterkenny as one of them.

I live in Belfast North right under the Cavehill practically a mountain im at the foot of and dont get it with a booster aerial which i had fitted. I also subscribe to Sky but they dont give out TV3........ Duh horse i thought you where better than that.

Also why should Northern People have to pay to watch something our fellow Irish men in the South get for free?

Its very hard for us in the north to get to view these games. I'm luckly going to my girlfriends mothers house this weekend in enniskillen where they can pick up RTE/TV3.

I know a few people with sourthern viewing cards for sky and this is the only way we can watch matchs on TV3.

I live in South Antrim and have no problems getting RTE or TV3.

The pub is always a good option if you don't get these channels as they will usually have them!!

Although I believe that BBC NI should be showing the matches especially when there aer still Ulster teams involved but I suppose thats between RTE and BBC.

Well North Side Gael, seems to me there is an huge imbalance here. The GAA as we know is a 32 county organisation but yet you don't have the same access to games on tv as we have down south. Your suggestion that the bbc/utv get the same package as rte could be the solution. I think tv3 will be available everywhere the same as rte when rte goes digital.

Its ridiculous that the GAA boast about not selling the championship rights to Setanta because they want them on free-to-air (down south), but then they dont arrange a deal for UTV or BBCNI to show it. Doublespeak!

On that point why (in the days of crossborder agreements) have RTE not been encouraged/forced/funded to transmit throughout the 6 counties?

Surely what your saying ballboy is to prolong the divide in the north with regard our games?

Now that things have changed the BBC have a possible chance to sell the GAA to the other side of the community, just to really prove how little you know my friend most people on the other side whom i know enjoy watching the GAA and enjoy gambling on it also. There is a lot of people putting in hard work and dont need certain peoples sort of historical unionist thoughts to ruin this good work.

Because you pay your taxes to the Queen to keep her in a nice dress and a big range rover, where as some of our taxes goes towards RTE and irish broadcasting

The know,

Now for a cavan fella id say theres something up with that post? Why should the irish tax payers be entitle to something that not all irish tax payers are entitle too? My friend the GAA belongs to its members not to the Irish people as some fair weather supporters seem to think. When the country is united again i see we will still have our problematic children!

OK NSG sorry I was only windin you up with the duh line.

however, i get the impression that the reason you cant get tv3 is because of the mountain, not because your a 'nordie'.
im sure theres plenty of 'free state dogs' who cant get reception either - so its not a north south issue - just a weak signal.

btw we have to pay a licence fee (even if we dont have rte) down here so tv3 isnt actually free for us - even tho they dont see a penny of it.
