The Waterford Under 16 camogie squad
U16's progress to All Ireland Semi-Final
For the second successive week the Waterford U16 team travelled to Dublin to play a Northern Ireland team at a half way venue. This week's match saw our team play Derry with a 1:30 throw-in at Trinity Gaels. On an extremely warm afternoon our team were comfortable winners on a scoreline of 5-14 to 2-3. Although the whole team played well the players who really stood out were Beth Carton (2-4), Molly Curran (0-04) and a goal apiece for Elizabeth McGrath, Iona Heffernan and Aisling Power.
This result ensures that the team progresses to the All-Ireland semi-finals which will be played in August and more details will be available closer to the date.

Intermediate Panel Match report v Limerick
On one of the hottest days of the year the Waterford Intermediate team travelled to Killeedy in Limerick County last Saturday to face a very fancied Limerick side in the next round of the championship. This entailed over a 4 hour bus journey to the venue before playing the match which was not ideal. It was unfortunate that the Waterford Camogie team were also playing a match at the same time as the Waterford hurlers in Thurles on Saturday night last against Kilkenny.
An extremely friendly welcome was extended by the Killeedy club (who had six club members on the Limerick squad) but both teams knew that this was going to be a difficult match and a pre-cursor to the Munster Intermediate final which these same two teams will contest in a few weeks time.
The referee, John O'Leary threw the sliotar in at 6:30 and Limerick started the more brightly by scoring the first point of the match in the second minute and could have quickly followed with a goal except for a poor finish by the Limerick forwards when a high ball into the Waterford goal area was not dealt with but was fired wide into the side netting. Shortly after, Karen Kelly pointed Waterford's first score when she scored from a foul on her.
Limerick scored two more points by Deirdre Fitzpatrick and Niamh Mulcahy's first score of the afternoon. Waterford's response was a second point from another Karen Kelly free. Waterford then suffered a setback when a high ball into the Waterford area was not dealt with ended up in the back of the goal which was quickly followed by a point from play by Limerick's Mary O'Callaghan.
With the score standing at Limerick's 1-04 to Waterford's 0-02, the players dug deep and responded with a score of 1-01 to no reply when Karen Kelly converted another free and Zoe O'Donoghue scored our first goal. Waterford then went on a fine scoring spree in the closing stages of the first half, scoring 4 points (2 points from Trish Jackman, 1 pt for Karen Kelly and 1 pt from Jennie Simpson) to limericks 1pt. Waterford were leading by two points as the half drew to a close but three quick points from Niamh Mulcahy could only responded by a single Zoe O'Donoghue score from play before the referee blew his whistle.
The sides were level at 1-08 apiece but Waterford had endured early Limerick pressure recover and could have been slight leaders except for some errors.
The second half started harmlessly enough with both teams playing competitively but within an 8-10 minute period shortly after the restart, Limerick scored 5 points (all from Niamh Mulcahy, 2 x 45's, 2 x frees and one from play) before Waterford had our first serious attack on the Limerick goal but Nicola Morrissey's effort went wide.
For large parts of the second half the sliotar remained in the Waterford half as the Limerick forwards and midfields work rate closed down all areas in the Waterford half preventing the sliotar reaching our forwards. This pressure led to Limerick scoring another 1-04 before we scored our first point of the second half after 20 minutes which was a free scored by Karen Kelly after Nicola Morrissey was fouled.
Waterford were trailing on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-09. Limerick continued to press and scored a further 3 points from Niamh Mulcahy. Waterford scored a consolation goal as the final minute approached when Trish Jackman launched a high ball into the Limerick goalmouth and somehow ended in the Limerick net.
At full time the score stood at Limerick 2-20 to Waterford's 2-09. Waterford now look forward to facing Antrim in the next round which is on Saturday 20th July at a half way venue. This match against Antrim now takes on importance to secure a semi-final place in this year's All Ireland Intermediate Championship, one we know the team can rise to.
Waterford scorer's were: Trish Jackman 1-2 (1f), Karen Kelly 0-5 (5f), Zoe O'Donoghue 1-1, Jennie Simpson 0-1.
