Loughnane set to learn future tonight
August 19, 2008
Ger Loughnane's future as Galway senior hurling manager looks set to be decided tonight (Tuesday) at a Galway Hurling Board meeting.
The meeting had originally been set for the same day last week, but was deferred and will instead take place tonight at the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry.
Loughnane took over the reins with the Tribesmen hurlers two years ago and had promised to deliver a Liam McCarthy Cup within that amount of time, but after exiting this year's All-Ireland SHC at the hands of Cork last month the Clare native has failed to do so.
In 2006, Loughnane began a three-year term with Galway with his position to come under review after the second year.
County PRO Séamus Finnerty has said that Loughnane's position is one of the eight items on agenda for tonight's meeting, and that the meeting has not been constructed solely for the purpose of reviewing the Galway boss' position.
"This is a regular hurling board meeting and there are eight minutes on the agenda. These include local championship matters and our minor hurlers, who qualified for the All-Ireland final on Sunday. The senior hurling management is just another topic to be discussed. I have no idea what sort of a debate will take place about Ger Loughnane as Galway manager. We will just have to wait and see what happens when the delegates meet"
