Redmond favours an outside change

August 19, 2008
Charlie Redmond believes that an experienced manager outside the capital borders could help Dublin end their All-Ireland famine. Following Paul Caffrey's resignation last weekend, a host of names have been mentioned to take the Dubs hotseat, including Redmond himself, but the 1995 All-Ireland winner thinks that an outsider's touch could work wonders for the Sky Blues. "I think it's at least something that they should discuss," said Redmond. "Jack O'Connor is in Kerry and it might be something that he would be interested in. "Joe Kernan is up in Crossmaglen and they are not too busy at the moment. "Maybe figures such as these might be the way to proceed." Although Kernan has ruled himself out of the running for the job, an outside manager could be the change Dublin need to take that needed step to reaching an All-Ireland final. In the moder era, Dublin have never had an manager outside the county in their senior ranks, but came close when former chairman John Bailey was said to be handing over the reins to current Wicklow manager Mick O'Dwyer. At the moment, Dublin native Mick Deegan is favourite to take the position after guiding the Metropolitans to an All-Ireland junior title this year.
