August 18, 2008
GAA president Nicky Brennan has promised to make cutting out racial abuse in Gaelic Games one of the Associations top priorities over the coming years.
The latest incident has occurred in Co Carlow, in which Brennan has praised the quick response in which the matter had been dealt with.
"Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and I utterly condemn this blatant disrespect for another human being. The recent incident was very isolated and I comment the GAA officials who dealt swiftly with the matter when it arose."
Writing in Saturday's All-Ireland quarter-final programme, Brennan urged clubs around the country to help foreign nationals within their respective to become involved in Gaelic Games.
"We now have many non-Irish children playing Gaelic Games and brining their own unique skills to our games. I continue urge GAA clubs to play their part in encouraging everyone, whatever their nationality or denomination, to become involved in our association.
"Many clubs, throughout the country, already have strong integration schemes. This starts with the local GAA club playing a key role in supporting Gaelic Games in the local primary schools.
"I have seen many integration programmes in my travels around Ireland and I recently launched a special scheme in Gort, where many Brazilian people reside.
"This initiative undertaken by the local GAA club is already proving very successful."
