Dublin Board in no hurry to appoint new manager

August 18, 2008
The Dublin County Board have revealed that they are in no hurry to appoint a new manager to the county's senior football team in the wake of Paul Caffrey's departure on Saturday. Caffrey stepped down from his Dublin post after Saturday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat to Tyrone at Croke Park, ending the Na Fianna clubman's four-year term as boss of the Leinster kingpins. Dublin Board CEO John Costello, whom Caffrey had publicly thanked for coming to him after Tommy Lyons' departure in 2004, confirmed that the Board will be taking their time in securing a replacement for Caffrey. "There's no hurry. We're talking months, said Costello. "We'll have a look at the situation, appoint a committee and take it from there. The National League isn't until February, we have plenty of time," admitted Costello. Costello also thanked Caffrey for his service to Dublin football as well as his backroom staff and the players for an outstanding contribution "He has given a huge service both as a player to his club Na Fianna and to Dublin and he brought a huge level of professionalism to his approach to the game despite the fact that he worked purely as an amateur. "His record speaks for itself, as manager of the Dublin team that won four Leinsters. But, unfortunately we are still that one step away from reaching an All-Ireland final. I'm very disappointed for Paul and all the management team and indeed the players who have given outstanding service."
