De La Salle celebrate with the All Ireland Colleges Senior 'A' Hurling Championship Cup
Stephen Power's injury-time point gave De La Salle, Waterford their first All-Ireland Colleges SHC 'A' title at the expense of Kilkenny CBS in Croke Park. De La Salle…….0-13 Kilkenny CBS….1-9 It brought the talented corner forward's tally for the afternoon to 0-9, and sparked unbridled scenes of joy among the De La Salle players and supporters in what was their first Croke Cup final appearance. The first-time Harty Cup winners were slow to settle with points from Mark Bergin and Mark Kelly giving Kilkenny CBS an early 0-2 to 0-1 lead. De La Salle could have taken the lead, though, in the 11th minute when Craig Moloney was brought down for a penalty, but Power blasted his effort over the crossbar. Power eventually gave De La Salle the lead, but they couldn't shake off a determined Kilkenny CBS side who were just a point adrift, 0-5 to 0-6, at the break. The Waterford side were denied another goal in the 37th minute when CBS 'keeper Stephen Murphy made a fine stop from a low Power free. The sides continued to trade points before CBS edged back in front when Adrian Stapleton goaled in the 48th minute. However, their lead was short-lived as De La Salle hit back with points from William Walsh and Power to regain parity with 10 minutes to go. Freetakers Power and Bergin swapped points again before Power scored what proved to be the winner. CBS could have forced a replay after that, but Bergin's 65th minute free came back off the post.
