Greencastle are Go!
March 12, 2007
Tyrone club Greencastle painted the capital red after defeating Duagh of Kerry by 0-13 to 0-12 in the All-Ireland junior club football championship decider at Croker.
The national junior football final was played under lights at HQ on Saturday night, March 10, and the Ulster kingpins performed superbly to edge a thriller by the odd point from 25.
This was a fascinating contest from start to finish. The sides were almost impossible to separate. In the end, it was the sublime scoretaking of Terry McDermott (0-6) that propelled the Tyrone champions to a historic triumph.
In true Kerry fashion, Duagh offered stern opposition and always looked capable of winning this match. But Martin Conway played a captain's role as Greencastle became the first non-Kerry club to win this competition.
