Springboost sport shoes designed to reduce injuries

December 14, 2006
Get ready to spring into shape this winter with a pair of Springboost high performance sport shoes, now available in Arnotts and selected sports shops nationwide. Springboost is the first range of footwear that uses a technique called Dorsi-flexion to position the heel below the ball of the foot. Dorsi-flexion helps promote better posture, opens up and lengthens core muscles and improves blood circulation in the legs. Whether you are walking or training, you will immediately notice the positive effect of alleviating pressure on your joints, hips, and lower back. While many sport shoes have over-flexible soles, which contribute to a higher incidence of metatarsal damage, Springboost shoes have a unique 'Energy Plate‚ built into the sole which helps to protect feet. Chartered Physiotherapist and former GAA All Star, Trevor Giles, explains that "injuries caused by prolonged training and running exercises can be reduced by wearing a sport shoe, like Springboost, which specifically caters for alleviating pressure on lower limb joints". Unlike conventional shoes that use raised heels to support the feet, Springboost trainers provide up to 3 pairs of ŒU-Control insoles‚ with their shoes.  ·        Insole 0 enables the wearer to control their stance for neutral flat foot walking (the way we were born to walk). ·        Insole No 2 or 4 positions the heel 2 or 4 degrees below the toes to increase the workout intensity of the wearer whether they are in a pair of Springboost walking shoes, the waterproof Nordic walking shoe, or one of the fitness workout shoes or Cross Trainers. Research has shown that Springboost footwear can also benefit sufferers of Diabetes and DVT, by helping to reduce swelling and inflammation of the feet. Osteoporosis sufferers who have been advised by a Physiotherapist to undertake appropriate physical exercise can also benefit due to the natural resistance from exercising in Springboost. "This is Quality versus Quantity training, aimed at making the wearer to push faster, stronger and higher, but while using less energy. They‚re like a Multi Gym on your feet." said Declan Duffy, Managing Director of Pacelli Sports who distributes Springboost in Ireland. In developing the Springboost shoe, designers questioned several of the top professional athletes, coaches, professional trainers and medical researchers in Europe and the United States to incorporate key suggestions into their design concept. It was agreed that the use of dorsiflexion to strengthen the muscles of the feet and ankle leads to a reduced prevalence of injuries. The reduced number of injuries resulted in more training and consequently better performances. How to Fit Your Running Shoes • Make sure you go to a specialist sports store. • Be fit for the shoe late in the day. Your foot expands later in the day after bearing weight. • Check your size each time you buy new shoes. You may end up surprised to discover that your feet continue to grow as you get older. Suddenly one day, you'll need a size 9 1/2 rather then an 8 1/2. •
