Antrim cruise to 61-point victory
June 18, 2006
Antrim beat Roscommon by a mammoth scoreline of 9-39 to 0-5 on Saturday in the Christy Ring competition.
For 13 minutes we had a cracking game on our hands. Roscommon went into the lead after two minutes. Brendan Kelley pointed twice for the Westerners as they went into a two points to one lead. Antrim quickly reacted with a fine goal from Liam Watson.
Roscommon battled well within this 13-minute period, as the scoreline was 1-4 to 0-5.
However, things quickly went downhill for Roscommon as Antrim ran away with the game from then on. Paddy Richmond started the rout with a well-taken goal after 17 minutes.
Further goals from Brian McFall and Watson ensured the tie was over at half time, as Antrim led by 25 points.
The Saffron County didn't let up in the second half. They quickly got into their rhythm with fine scores from Joey Scullion and Johnny McIntosh. Scores were arriving every minute from a number of different players and angles.
Roscommon failed to register a score after their 13-minute playing period as Antrim steamrolled on to the finish the match with three goals coming in the last ten minutes.
Some positives Antrim can take from the match is that all bar two of their scores came from play and that ten players ended up on the scoresheet. Johnny McIntosh (2-8) and Paddy Richmond (3-4)) taking the scoring plaudits.
Roscommon will be hoping their next match doesn't resemble a cricket scoreline.
