Healy Park lights ready for action

April 28, 2006
The newly-installed floodlights at Healy Park will be switched on for the first time next Friday, May 5 when the Omagh venue stages a Tyrone senior football championship double-header. Donaghmore will take on Loughmacrory and Killyclogher will face Pomeroy in what will be an historic occasion for Tyrone GAA. The occasion, and in particular its novelty value, should attract a bumper crowd to the GAA's newest floodlit venue. The games, however, will not be the first Tyrone SFC ties to be played under lights. Last year, Carrickmore staged three floodlit matches, including a semi-final replay between St. Enda's, Omagh and Errigal Ciaran. The Healy Park floodlighting system, installed at a cost of EUR750,000, and funded by the Ulster Council, also features ancillary lighting on the terracing, entrances and exits.
