Heartbreak for Phelan

Exciting young Kilkenny hurler Conor Phelan has been advised by medics to give up the game, until further notice. The highly rated Waterford IT star has been hit with the news that a scan he recently undertook with the rest of the Kilkenny senior panel has revealed something which doctors are concerned about. "At the moment he has been told to stay away from contact sport," said Kilkenny chairman Ned Quinn. "That's an awful blow to all of us because Conor is a lovely lad, a great hurler who just loves sport. "We are hoping that things might yet turn in his favour but we have left it to the family to monitor the situation," he added.
