Animal rights give supporter grief

September 24, 2005
Animal rights supporters in Kerry have lashed a local farmer for using marking fluid to turn out up to 50 of his animals in the green and gold of Kerry! Animal lovers in the Kingdom have clashed with farmer Brendan O'Connor, Beaufort, Killarney over his decision to put dye on a goat, cows, ducks and geese ahead of tomorrow (Sunday)'s All-Ireland SFC final. Animal Rights Action Network co-ordinator John Carmody said it was "absolutely appalling" to do such a thing to animals. He said it was sending out all the wrong message to children and others who might use real paint on animals. However Kerry ISPCA inspector Harry McDaid said while he had received more than 40 calls about the issue he said "there's no actually no harm in this. "I can give an assurance that if anything was wrong, we would put it right straight away."
