Harte hints at Canavan call-up

September 16, 2005
??ss Mickey Harte has admitted that Peter Canavan is "close, very close" to being handed a starting place in the O'Neill County line-up for the upcoming All-Ireland SFC final tussle with Kerry. Harte has only started the team's talisman in three of his county's nine championship games so far this year but as the countdown to this year's blue riband decider looms ever larger on the horizon, Harte has hinted that Canavan could well begin the game at Croker on September 25th. "You can guess that he's close, very close," said Harte in reference to Canavan's possible selection. "We'll have to put a lot of thought into that, indeed into the entire team and how they'll be positioned. "Peter Canavan will be a significant player in this team whatever happens. "His value to the team is without question - what we must work out is how best we can avail of that value. "We have to put our heads together and decide the best way to deploy Peter. "It may be different on any given day, but we have to have flexibility. "We talk about his role in this team and we try to make a judgement as to how he can best be deployed on any given day."
