Cooke to appeal suspension
July 01, 2005
Laois forward Shane Cooke is to appeal against his one-month ban arising from his sending off against Kildare last month in the hope that he will be cleared to play against Dublin in the Leinster football final on July 17.
Cooke, who plays his club football in the capital with St. Mary's, Saggart, received a straight red card along with Kildare's James Lonergan just minutes after coming on as a sub in Laois' 0-21 to 0-9 win and was subsequently handed a one-month ban. The suspension will expire on the night before the Leinster final but Cooke won't be eligible as a one-match ban has to be served if no game occurs in the month.
Lonergan is expected to come out in support of Cooke in a bid to get the suspension lifted when the appeal is heard by the Central Disciplinary Committee.
