Carrick are Leitrim senior hurling champions for the fourth time in five years after dethroning Cluainín Iomáint with a 1-15 to 0-11 win at Páirc Seán MacDiarmada this afternoon.
With these sides having met in the last 10 county SHC finals, Dhani Keane’s goal in the 41st minute paved the path for the victors who clinched their club’s 39th title with a seven-point victory in Carrick-on-Shannon.
It was Cluainín Iomáint that held a 0-3 to 0-2 advantage after 15 minutes thanks to the points of Sean Markam, Gavin O’Hagan (free) and Kevin Clerkin (0-4) before Carrick hit the front to carry in a one-point lead at the interval.
Chris Flanagan and freetaker Sean O’Riordan (0-5) were among those to raise the white flags, leaving it at 0-7 to 0-6 when the sides went in, and the scores of Conor McLoughlin and James McNabola opened up a three-point gap prior to Keane hitting the jackpot for Carrick.
O’Hagan’s frees kept the holders in it before Conor McLoughlin, 'Man of the Match' O’Riordan and Kevin O’Dowd sent over unanswered points that cemented Carrick’s triumph.
