Salthill-Knocknacarra manager Finian Hanley admitted he thought his side were beaten before a dramatic late comeback secured a 2-12 to 1-14 victory over Moycullen in yestrday's Galway senior football championship final.
Tomo Culhane struck a decisive late goal to seal the club’s first county title since 2012, completing a remarkable turnaround against the defending champions.
Hanley praised his players’ composure and fitness after they recovered from a difficult start to claim a memorable victory.
“I thought we were gone, to be honest,” Hanley told RTÉ Sport.
“When you're up against a team like that, a juggernaut, it's very hard to get it back in the end but the composure the lads showed and the fitness levels were off the charts. Our boys are never bet unfortunately. They just can't go away.”
“It means a monumental amount. We don't win a lot. It's very hard to get guys to commit. We lose five or six every year. But look, it means an awful lot. I hope it will spur on the next generation.”
