Loughmore-Castleiney face a huge test in their three-in-a-row quest in the Tipperary senior hurling championship as they get set to meet Holycross/Ballycahill in the competition’s preliminary quarter-finals.

The Mid-Tipperary champions finished third in Group 2 after a three-way tie with Borris-Ileigh and Clonoulty/Rossmore, leaving them with a tougher route to the last eight. Holycross/Ballycahill, meanwhile, secured second place in Group 1.

The fixture is a repeat of last month’s Mid final, which Loughmore won by 1-29 to 0-25 after extra time in Boherlahan.

The other preliminary quarter-final in the Dan Breen Cup race sees Clonoulty/Rossmore taking on Nenagh Eire Og, with both games scheduled for the weekend of September 5/6th.

Thurles Sarsfields, Moycarkey-Borris, Cashel King Cormacs and JK Brackens have already secured seeded quarter-final places, while Borris-Ileigh and Kiladangan also await the winners.

The draws for the Tipperary senior and premier intermediate hurling championship relegation playoffs are set to take place at a later date.
