Kerry denied Tyrone a third consecutive All-Ireland U20 football championship title this evening with a come from behind 0-21 to 1-10 victory at Croke Park.
In what was a repeat of this competition's 2024 decider, the holders made a flying start at headquarters that saw them 1-4 to 0-2 ahead after 10 minutes with the help of Shea McDermott’s goal.
Points from Adrian McGurren (2) and McDermott saw Tyrone’s lead grow to eight before the Munster side answered back with scores from Tomás Kennedy and Gearoid White and then grabbing an Evan Boyle two-pointer.
Killian Dennehy, Boyle and Daniel Kirby sent over the next three scores unanswered for the Kingdom, as they trimmed their deficit to two (1-8 to 0-9) come half-time and scores from Kennedy and Ronan Carroll early in the resumption would bring them level.
Kirby’s point ushered Tomás Ó Sé’s side in front for the first time in the 38th minute and White’s free from beyond the arc cushioned it ahead of Pa Walsh making it 0-15 to 1-8.
Talisman McDermott pulled back a brace of points for the Red Hands, but another two-pointer from White would be followed up by Kennedy and Jack O’Sullivan points before Kennedy’s free put a seal on Kerry’s first All-Ireland triumph in the U21/U20 grade since 2008.
