Former Armagh star Stefan Campbell says it’s “a scary thought” to think how much Kieran Donaghy’s coaching can improve Kerry’s already deadly attack.
Having spent five years in Kieran McGeeney’s backroom team in Armagh, Donaghy is now part of his native county’s set-up under Jack O’Connor as the Kingdom seek back-to-back All-Ireland SFC crowns this summer, with a Division 1 final against Donegal to come first this Sunday at Croke Park (4pm).
Speaking at the launch of the 2026 GAA+ match schedule and Season Pass this week, 2024 All-Ireland winner Campbell gave his thoughts on the impact Donaghy could have on Kerry’s forward prowess.
“He is huge and the danger is, how much is he going to improve that Kerry forward line?
“Are they over reliant on David Clifford? Obviously not. But if he can go down there and improve David in terms of those back door cuts, the overloads, the manipulation, you know, the stuff that comes from that basketball defence and how you manipulate it, it's a scary thought.”
He added: “It would be silly of me to say that he hasn't shared the full (Armagh) playbook. I think from an Armagh perspective, we would have preferred if he'd taken a year out instead of going directly back to what we see as a rival for the All-Ireland.”
