Kildare ace Jack Sheridan is set to miss Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1B clash against Carlow after having an appeal against his red card rejected.

Sheridan was sent off late in the first-half of the Lilywhites’ 3-24 to 1-23 win over Down in Ballycran last Sunday afternoon and will serve a one match ban.

The result itself was an important one for Brian Dowling’s men in their bid to stay safe in the second tier, although they are not yet mathematically safe from relegation.

Sunday’s showdown with neighbours Carlow at Cedral St Conleth's Park (2pm) will see them without their talisman after an appeal to the Central Hearings Committee on Wednesday night against the red card he picked up at the weekend was unsuccessful.

The CHC found that the infraction against him was proven and, as a result, Sheridan stands suspended for this weekend’s derby clash at the Newbridge venue.
