
Down made it four wins from four outings in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League by seeing off Wexford on a 1-29 to 1-19 scoreline at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
Conor Laverty’s charges were 0-10 to 0-8 ahead when Adam Crimmins rifled in their goal on 29 minutes, with Wexford responding to the concession with three unanswered two-pointers from Mark Rossiter, Darragh Brooks (free) and Eoghan Nolan.
A Daniel Guinness point and Patrick Havern effort from distance saw the visitors take in a 1-13 to 0-14 lead at the half and they’d cut loose after the change of ends with Havern and Guinness to fore for them in pushing towards a 13-point lead before Eoin Porter grabbed a consolation goal at the death for the Slaneysiders.
Mark McHugh’s Westmeath side recorded their third win in four games by dealing Fermanagh a fourth straight loss in their league campaign.
The 1-26 to 2-11 win at TEG Cusack Park saw the visitors netting first-half goals via Paul Breen and Aogan Kelm to lead by seven points at half-time, but the Lake men got motoring in the second-half with a quick 0-4 from Brian Cooney and registered two-pointers from Sam McCartan and Luke Loughlin before talisman Loughlin fired a decisive goal for them in the 57th minute.
In Ennis, Clare picked up their second win of the campaign at the expense of Laois (0-24 to 2-15).
Eoin Cleary led the way for the Banner men with 0-10 over the 70 minutes, while Aaron Griffin contributed 0-6 as his side were able to overcome the concession of two second-half goals from Evan O’Carroll and Patrick O’Sullivan to get the win.
Sligo also secured their second victory in Division 3 after edging out Limerick by 1-18 to 1-15 at Markievicz Park.
Cian Lally goaled for the hosts in the opening minute before Danny Neville struck a penalty for the Treaty men 10 minutes later, but scores from Ross Doherty and Niall Murphy would help Sligo to hold a 1-10 to 1-6 advantage come half-time.
Limerick would get within two points thanks to Eliah Riordan’s two-pointer late on ahead of scores from Shane Deignan and Murphy (free) wrapping up the points for the Yeats men.
