Shane McGrath’s late two-pointer saw Galway complete an 11-point turnaround against Kerry in Tralee this evening to earn a draw in this thrilling Allianz Football League Division 1 encounter.
It finished 2-17 to 3-14 at Austin Stack Park, where the Kingdom led by 2-10 to 1-3 at half-time with Keith Evans and David Clifford (1-6) having registered their goals.
The visitors’ first major came from Matthew Tierney in the 19th minute, but they had a mountain to climb in the second-half and plugged away with McGrath and Tierney nailing two-pointers for them and Finnian O Laoi and Daniel O’Flaherty adding points.
The Connacht champions took maximum profit from a turnover on a Kerry attack in the 64th minute that led to Cian Hernon firing in their second goal.
The momentum was firmly with Padraic Joyce’s men from there and skipper John Maher would bore through to raise their third green flag five minutes later with a brilliant finish to the top corner of the net.
Dylan McHugh and Dylan Casey traded points down the home stretch that kept the margin at two ahead of McGrath shooting over from distance to level the sides and, ultimately, earn a share of the spoils for the Tribesmen.
