Former Tipperary star Niall O’Meara believes the Premier men would be “very happy” with their progression in the Allianz Hurling League thus far this season.

After having defeated Galway (1-21 to 1-16) and Offaly (5-24 to 1-18) in the opening two rounds in Division 1A, the All-Ireland champions slipped to their first competitive loss of the year at the hands of rivals Cork last Saturday at Pairc Ui Chaoimh where it finished 0-29 to 0-22 in favour of the hosts.

Speaking to RTE Sport this week, two-time All-Ireland winner O’Meara reckons that Liam Cahill’s men will be more than content with how their league campaign has gone so far.

"I think they'd be very happy. I suppose down in Cork the weekend, I didn't really enjoy the game too much, there was a bit too much shadowboxing,” he said.

"I suppose coming after the All-Ireland final last year, Cork might have had a bit more in the tank to try and win it.

"But Tipp will be delighted. I was very impressed with Cathal O'Reilly at corner-back and Jake Morris continues to go from strength to strength.

"There's no medals won in February but it's about building. People would say he [Cahill] hasn't timed things right in years previous - but he certainly did last year."
