Rouine named new Clare captain

Cillian Rouine will captain Clare’s senior footballers for the 2026 season.

The Ennistymon clubman has been give the skipper’s role by new manager Paul Madden ahead of the Banner men’s Allianz League Division 3 opener against Down on Saturday week.

Rouine succeeds Cillian Brennan in the role, with the latter having taken over the captaincy from Eoin Cleary in 2024.

The experienced defender, who has been part of the Clare senior set-up for a number of years now, is part of a proud footballing family with his father Brendan and uncle Joe Joe both having been members of the victorious 1992 Munster SFC winning team.

Cillian’s older brother Brendy is also on the current Clare squad, with the former yet to make his first competitive appearance in 2026 having missed out on the team’s McGrath Cup outings against Waterford and Kerry.
