Upperchurch-Drombane (Tipperary) are All-Ireland club intermediate hurling champions after edging Tooreen (Mayo) by 4-20 to 2-24 in a thrilling final at Croke Park this evening.

Gavin Ryan’s remarkable free saved extra time for the Munster champions who netted three goals in the added periods to go on and claim the coveted title.

This epic clash at headquarters saw Upperchurch building a 0-9 to 0-2 lead after 25 minutes, but Tooreen made a charge in the run up to half-time that saw points from Eoin Delaney, Sean Kenny and Fergal Boland help trim their deficit to one (0-10 to 0-9) come the break.

Shane Boland and Fergal Boland stormed the Mayo men in front after the resumption, but a Conor Fahey goal put Upperchurch back on the front foot until Kenny Feeney and Brian Morley surged the Connacht champions ahead again.

The see-saw battle continued right until the full-time whistle, with Tooreen edging 0-20 to 1-16 ahead in injury-time prior to Brady sailing over his free from distance that forced extra time.

With huge momentum after their incredible equaliser, Upperchurch netted goals via Fahey and Paddy Phelan in the first-half of extra time and added a Paul Shanahan goal in the second period that put a seal on the victory which marks a second ever All-Ireland club IHC success for Tipperary.
