Scotstown triumphed to their fifth Ulster club senior football championship title this evening thanks to a 0-19 to 0-16 extra time victory over Kilcoo at the Box-It Athletic Grounds.
A high drama finish in normal time saw Kilcoo completing an eight-point turnaround, with Callum Rodgers’s point deep in injury-time leaving the scoreboard to read 0-12 apiece at the full-time whistle.
That forced extra time at the Armagh venue and it was the Monaghan champions that took off again as back-to-back scores from goalkeeper Rory Beggan (one two-point free and one ‘45’) had them back up by three within six minutes.

Paul Devlin pulled a point back for the 2021 champions but that’d be erased by Conor McCarthy at the other end prior to the latter floating over a two-pointer which increased the Farney side’s advantage to five.
Devlin (free) got one back just before half-time in extra time and Kilcoo would it bring back to a two-point game via Shealan Johnston’s effort from beyond the arc in the 72nd minute.
A few chances went by the wayside for the Magpies after that, allowing a free from Beggan, who finished with 0-11, to steady the ship for Scotstown once more as they saw out their three-point victory to bring the coveted Seamus McFerran Cup back to their club for the first time since 1989.
The result means that David McCague’s men now progress to the All-Ireland club SFC semi-finals against St Brigid’s (Roscommon) on the weekend of January 3/4, with newly crowned Munster champions Dingle (Kerry) set to face Ballyboden St Enda's (Dublin) in the other semi on the same weekend.
