Former Down goalkeeper Charlie Smyth marked his NFL debut for the New Orleans Saints by kicking this 56-yard field goal in their 17-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins yesterday.
The 24-year-old was elevated to the active roster for the Saints on Saturday and took his opportunity with both hands by registering his first points in the NFL with his first field kick attempt following his introduction in the fourth quarter at the Hard Rock Stadium.
The Mayobridge man also managed an onside kick, but he could not save the Saints from their 10th defeat of the season.
"Ice cold in his veins," Saints quarterback Tyler Shough said of Smyth.
"I think it's tough, when you're sitting around the whole game, you're kind of trying to stay warm; I think he did a really good job."
Smyth had been a member of the team's practice squad as part of the NFL's international player pathway programme after signing his first contract in March 2024.
