Clonmel Commercials manager Tommy Morrissey has dedicated his side’s latest Tipperary SFC success to the late Philly Ryan.
Commercials went clear at the top of the Tipperary SFC roll of honour with their 22nd title after a facile 1-26 to 1-5 victory over Kilsheelan-Kilcash at FBD Semple Stadium on Saturday. It came just three weeks after the sudden passing of the Tipp manager and former goalkeeper, whose son Shane is the current Commercials netminder.
“Obviously, Philly is in our thoughts constantly from this time three weeks ago, and while as a group, we haven’t been making a reference to it in dressing-room or anything like that, there was no need to,” an emotional Morrissey told Tipp FM.
“That man will never leave our minds and we spoke about it during the week. It’s just, he meant so much to all of us, so it made today extra sensitive and extra sweet for when we win it.”
