Ballygunner came up with the goods late on to see off Na Piarsaigh by 0-18 to 0-15 to advance into the last four of the Munster club senior hurling championship.

The Waterford kingpins pucked over the last four points at the TUS Gaelic Grounds to leave themselves a win away from an eighth consecutive Munster final berth, with their conquerors from last year Sarsfields (Cork) now awaiting them in the semi-finals.

Minus the services of marksman Pauric Mahony, Jason Ryan’s men got out to an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead in this one before the Limerick champions battled back to level and it was scores from Dessie Hutchinson, Mark Hartley and Mikey Mahony that saw the Gunners go in at the break with a 0-8 to 0-5 advantage.

Looking for their first provincial win over this opposition since 2017, Na Piarsaigh, who were without William O'Donoghue, closed the gap in the second-half with the help of Tommy Grimes, Kevin Downes and Conor Boylan points ahead of defender Ronan Lynch shooting them into their first lead.

However, Ballygunner produced a sizzling finish that saw them outscoring the home side by 0-5 to 0-1 in the closing 10 minutes, with Harry Ruddle, Hutchinson, Peter Hogan, Conor Tobin and Patrick Fitzgerald all on target for them.
