London senior captain Eoin Walsh has retired from inter-county football.

A former All-Ireland U21 winner with Galway, Walsh represented London for the past six seasons and captained the Exiles in their historic win over Offaly in the Tailteann Cup last year.

The 2-20 to 0-12 victory against the Faithful men that day marked London’s first championship win in 11 seasons.

London GAA posted on social media on Thursday to pay tribute to Walsh for his years of service on the field after the defender confirmed his retirement.

"London GAA would like to extend its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Eoin Walsh, who has announced his retirement from intercounty action after six seasons of outstanding service to our Senior footballers as both a player and captain,” the statement read.

"Eoin, an Under-21 All-Ireland winner with Galway in 2013 and native of Moycullen, first moved to London in 2018 to further his career in physiotherapy. He transferred to St. Kiernan's for the 2019 season and sterling performances with his adopted club quickly earned him a call up to the county team in October 2019.

"Eoin has been ever present since and has been involved in some great moments for London football over the past few years. He was a central player in the 2022 season where our footballers achieved their best ever league campaign and off the back of four seasons of outstanding commitment, Eoin was rewarded with the captaincy in January 2024.

"Eoin captained the team to memorable wins in the 2024 season vs Mayo in the FBD League and against Offaly in the Tailteann Cup which became London's first championship win in 11 seasons."

London senior football manager Michael Maher also commented: “On behalf of everyone involved with London GAA, I would like to sincerely thank Eoin for his loyalty, dedication and commitment to our Senior football team for the last six years.

"Eoin has been an integral part of the county football team since 2019 and has been at the centre of so many memorable days.

"On the pitch an exceptional player and warrior, and off the pitch a true gentleman. A natural choice to be appointed as captain 2024, he brought a huge energy, positivity and spirit to the changing room. As a player, Eoin epitomised passion, leadership and pride in the London jersey.

"His consistent high level of performance and influence both on and off the pitch will leave a mark on London football. Eoin has gone above and beyond for London GAA and has truly left his mark on the jersey.

"He was a role model for every player in our squad and particularly the ever growing number of London-born players and he certainly set the standard for those young men. His wife Leah and his family have been amongst our most dedicated and loyal supporters over the last six years travelling to all corners of Ireland and at every game in Ruislip. I would like to wish Eoin, Leah and all his family the very best of health, happiness and success for the future."
