O'Donnell commits to Banner men for 2026

Waterford's Shane Fives and Shane O'Donnell of Clare go to ground at Walsh Park

Clare star Shane O’Donnell has confirmed that he will lineout for the Banner men next season if manager Brian Lohan chooses to call him up.

The two-time All-Ireland winner’s absence was sorely felt by his county this past summer as a shoulder injury ruled him out of action.

O’Donnell has since returned to the field to help his club Eire Og Ennis to county SHC glory earlier this month and, speaking to GAA.ie, the ace attacker says he intends to play for Clare in 2026.

“If Brian will have me back, the intention is for me to play next year, but it really is a question of whether I'm able to clear quite a number of injuries that have kind of accumulated this year,” said the 2024 Hurler of the Year.

"I think chasing the shoulder back, I would probably try it again, but it was not the right decision, really.

“I think I ended up kind of coming back into the championship undercooked a small bit on everything else, even though my shoulder was technically passed the test to get back.

“And it led to quite a challenging year in terms of just being fit, staying fit for the matches that I had. But, at the same time, I don't think I would be able to avoid chasing that, getting back for that Tipp game.

“So, that's just the reality of the situation, it's going to be a long off-season when it comes to try and get a number of things right. But if I can get them right and they react well to the rehab, then I intend to play next year.”
