Éire Óg Ennis landed their fourth Clare senior football championship title in five years thanks to a 1-16 to 2-6 win against St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg this afternoon.

The success sees the Ennis club recording a remarkable senior championship double in the Banner County, with their hurlers having defeated Clooney-Quin last weekend to secure a first Canon Hamilton Cup in 35 years.

After conceding two first-half goals, Éire Óg’s footballers kept it to script here by hitting an unanswered 1-8 to power to victory and claim the Jack Daly Cup once more.

Both of St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield’s goals came from Odhran O’Connell inside the opening 21 minutes of this decider, but they wouldn’t be enough to give them the lead at half-time as Mark McInerney’s two-pointer from a free left it at 0-7 to 2-1 when the sides went in.

The holders went ahead through David McNamara within two minutes of the resumption before Paddy Bugler’s two-pointer nudged St Joseph’s back in front.

The scores of Jack Joyce and McInerney brought Éire Óg level with 10 minutes remaining and they’d finish with a flourish in Ennis, which included a coolly taken Gavin Cooney goal to help put a rubber stamp on the victory.
