Naas and Athy will face off in the Kildare SFC final following their respective semi-final victories over Celbridge and Sarsfields in Newbridge yesterday.

In a repeat of the last two finals, five-in-a-row chasing Naas eased to a 1-20 to 0-13 win over Celbridge after leading by 1-8 to 0-9 at half-time. County man Alex Beirne did most of the damage with a haul of 1-7 for Philly McMahon’s charges, who look to be coming to the boil at just the right time.

The other last-four tie was a much closer affair which saw Athy edge out Sarsfields on a 2-14 to 2-13 scoreline.

Niall Kelly scored a last-minute winner to bring his tally to 2-2 after Callum Bolton’s 57th minute goal had brought Sarsfields level. Cian Costigan raised the Newbridge side’s other green flag, but they came up just short as two-pointers from David Hyland and Kildare’s Tailteann Cup winning captain Kevin Feely helped to get Athy over the line.
