The Kerry SFC preliminary round 1 draw has pitted East Kerry – winner of four of the last six Bishop Moynihan Cups – against St Kieran’s.
The draw included district teams only, including the newly-formed North Kerry which is an amalgamation of Shannon Rangers and Feale Rangers. As it happened, they received a bye into the second round. Under the new format, the seven divisional teams will play off in preliminary rounds with five of them qualifying for the Kerry SFC proper. They will then be joined by the nine club teams, namely champions Dr Crokes, last year’s runners-up Dingle, Na Gaeil, Austin Stacks, Templenoe, Milltown/Castlemaine, Kenmare Shamrocks, Rathmore and Spa.
The winners of the three preliminary round 1 games - which will be played on the weekend of September 19/20/21 - will progress to the SFC round 1, while the three losers will join North Kerry in the second preliminary round. The winners of those two games will also progress to round 1 of the SFC, completing the line-up.
