Waterford has been confirmed as the host city for the 2026 World GAA Games.
The World GAA Council confirmed the decision yesterday (Friday), with the Deise County coming out on top in a shortlist which included Derry and Kerry.
The five-day event next year is set to see matches played over four days at the SETU Arena, West Campus in Carriganore from July 13–16.
The finals then take place on July 17th at Waterford’s county ground, Walsh Park.
It is set to be the fifth ever World GAA Games event, with the first having taken place in Dhabi a decade ago, and its expected that 2,000 players will participate in the 100+ football, hurling, camogie, and ladies football teams.
“I am delighted Waterford has been confirmed as host of the 2026 World GAA Games,” stated Uachtarán CLG Jarlath Burns.
“These Games play an important role in the growth of Gaelic games worldwide and are of huge significance to the clubs and communities that make up World GAA. They represent an acknowledgement of, and support for, the incredible efforts of volunteers across the globe who promote and develop our games.
“I’m certain the announcement of Waterford as host will inspire GAA clubs around the world to prepare to showcase their best in 2026.”
