Tipperary’s All-Ireland winning captain Ronan Maher paid a warm tribute to the late Dillon Quirke as part of his acceptance speech.

A key part of the Tipperary team, Dillon passed away while captaining Clonoulty Rossmore in a match at Semple Stadium three years ago.

There were emotional scenes at Croke Park this evening, with Tipperary manager Liam Cahill visibly upset, as Maher paid tribute to his former team-mate before accepting the Liam MacCarthy Cup following Tipp’s incredible victory over Cork:

“To one player who is no longer with us but is so much a part of what we are: Dillon Quirke.

“We carried your spirit with us every step of the way. You were in the dressing room, you were on the field of play, you were in our hearts.

“And we hope we did you and your family proud today.”
