Wicklow got up and running in the Tailteann Cup by handing Laois a first defeat of the campaign at Echelon Park, Aughrim, where it finished 0-21 to 0-16.

After having lost their opener to Offaly last weekend, Oisin McConville’s side settled into this one with early points from Mark Kenny and Oisin McGraynor and went on to go up by four points before Laois got motoring.

The scores of Killian Roche, Shaun Fitzpatrick, Niall Corbett and Ronan Coffey helped the visitors to hold a 0-10 to 0-8 lead at the half before Wicklow upped it a gear following the change of ends.

‘Keeper Mark Jackson sent over a two-pointer from a free that eventually surged the Garden men back in front and they wouldn’t look back from there, as Eoin D’Arcy and Padraig OToole struck over scores in the closing quarter that sealed an important two points for their team.

In Corrigan Park, Limerick made it two wins from two in their campaign by seeing off Antrim on a comprehensive 1-18 to 0-10 scoreline.

The Division 4 champions held a 0-10 to 0-6 lead at half-time and would increase their advantage to double figures with an Iain Corbett penalty 10 minutes into the resumption.

James Naughton was in fine scoring form for the Treaty men throughout as they inflicted the Saffrons with their second defeat in a week.

Earlier today, Offaly secured their second win of the competition by seeing off Waterford by 1-18 to 1-13 at Walsh Park.

Dylan Guiry struck an early goal for the home side before Offaly got into their rhythm and a couple of Jack Bryant points in the second quarter saw them take in a 0-8 to 1-2 half-time lead.

Waterford got it back level before a Shane Tierney free was backed up by a Cathal Flynn goal to settle some nerves for the Faithful men and, from there, the points of Dylan Hyland, Tierney and Jordan Hayes would seal the win for the visitors.

Meanwhile, favourites Kildare strolled to an emphatic 3-19 to 1-11 win against Tipperary in Clonmel.

Daniel Flynn’s 23rd minute goal proved the difference between the teams at the break (1-9 to 1-6), with Darragh Brennan finding the net for Tipp five minutes later.

The second-half really saw the gulf between the teams become apparent, as goals from Alex Beirne (penalty) and the superb Flynn put the Lilywhites on the path to a 14-point win in the end.
